Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India entrance examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India. The examination is held every year in the month of January/February. The GATE score or rank is used for admissions to post-graduate programmes (such as ME, M.Tech, MS, Direct PhD) in IISc, IITs and other prestigious institutes in India. The GATE score may also be used by PSUs for recruiting engineers. Management institutes like NITIE, Mumbai offer admission to Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering on the basis of GATE scores.
